Christmas Dress Up Week

Middle school has been such fun for Emily. Just before Christmas break they had a Christmas dress up week! Emily really gets into these days....
Ugly Sweater day...
Favorite Christmas Character day and my personal fav...

Red and green day...

There was also a Hawaiian day where she wore a very colorful Hawaiian shirt of Grandpa's and pajama day where she wore my new kitty footy pjs!! I missed those pics because there just isn't time in the morning and she takes it off as soon as she gets home!! Do you think she'll put the outfit back on and let me take a pic later?? No Way!!! Geez Mom!! How could you even ask??

What a fun way to get more in the spirit while at the same time making school more fun for the last few days!  We had a lot of fun with it!!

I always seem to be a day late and a dollar short....

and today is no different...

Al's birthday was December 18th and the kids and I tried to make it fun....it's hard having a birthday so close to Christmas and of course when you have a wife who turns 40 the same year....well, you know what I mean...

Casey is convinced that birthdays mean hunts (although I think his opinion is changing to all presents...)so anyway, we did a scavenger birthday hunt for Daddy. Casey probably loved it more than Daddy! Casey actually got his first hunt last February on his 5th birthday and I remember him opening that present and saying, " But Mom. It's just a piece of paper." Emily heard that and she perked right up and the hunt was on. When they finally found his present, Casey handed it to me and said, "Again!" At my birthday this year, he insisted that Al help him hide a picture that he drew for me because it was my birthday and birthdays mean hunts after all.

So, on Al's birthday, while he was outside working, the kids and I planned a hunt, each of us picking hiding places. When it came time to open presents, we couldn't find that one...Casey pipes up, "Daddy, we have to find that one so we can send you on your hunt!" Eventually, we all remembered that Casey had wanted to hide that present too and we found it in the refrigerator!!

We had a steak lunch and watched the latest Pirate's of the Caribbean movie that we gave Daddy for his birthday in our "movie theater." We even drug it out to birthday week and all went to the theater this last week to see Sherlock Holmes 2 for his birthday!! Hope it was fun turning 39 Al!! We love you!!

Photography

I worked last Saturday and when I got home I noticed how cool the moon was lighting the river so I went home and talked Emily into going and taking pictures with me. We grabbed one of Al's neon shirts and hats and gloves. I parked off of the bridge and put my flashers on....a nice policeman stopped and talked to me. And then we went out to the bridge which incidentally is on a highway and took some pics. Emily used my old camera and I used my new one!! Hers needed some settings adjusted, but she was cold and worried about being on the bridge and cold so we headed home, but I did get a couple of interesting shots...

This reminds me of some artwork hanging in my sister and brother in law's house. It looks like not much of anything until you get up close to it and can pick out the objects in the landscape. I lightened it just a little. I don't edit much so I'm not sure, perhaps it needs something a bit more?? What do you think? Beth???
On another not, I'm still not done Christmas shopping and sending cards, etc. but as of today closer than I was yesterday which is always a big plus!!!

My 40th birthday....

My wonderful hubby got me a new camera for my 40th birthday WOW!!! ( He says he knew that I'd never buy it for myself...and he's right)...The camera took this picture at the birthday party he had for me, I obviously didn't take it, not sure who did, but I'm glad someone picked up my camera and took pictures! It's always fun to look at what other people take with your camera....

My parents gave me my grandmother's wedding ring made into a necklace! WOW!!! I really miss my grandma....

Emily, Carter and Casey gave me footy pajamas that look like a big leopard kitty cuz I'm always cold...Love them!!!

I got a box full of 40 suckers with the tag "40 sucks!"

I got a lot of other really fun gifts and had the opportunity to spend time with lots of my favorite people!!
And Just so you all know,

Turning 40 isn't all that bad...it's actually kinda great!! Going to be my best year yet!!!

Random shots of Fall 2011

I don't know what all of the great bloggers out there do to make sure they have time to blog, but for whatever reason, I struggle. I decided it was because I only have time for one hobby, and I've been reading a lot lately...Excuses, excuses, so, I'll do some quick and random updates so I don't forget what was going on in our lives in the Fall of 2011. I am going to quite "old" this year you know....

This llama has nothing to do with anything, other than I thought he was cool and he was at a pumpkin patch that the kids and I and our old neighbors went to this year...

I didn't get near the opportunities to photograph fall farming this year that I wanted. There was always something else that I needed to be doing. On this particular day I took a half an hour and just shot pictures the whole time while Emily was sitting in the van saying, "Come on Mom. We have to go sell magazines. I'm bored. I'm hungry. Mom!!" You get the picture. Anyway, I just think that the beeswings are sorta magical.
Emily is in Middle school and they have a Fall concert. This year they dressed in the time period of the songs they were singing. Emily's group was Ragtime Era, so we made a Flapper girl costume!! It was a hit!

Not to be left out, Casey wanted to be a "Flapper Guy"!
I don't know what Carter was portraying, but he was willing to pose, so I got a picutre!
Last weekend, a good friend of mine came to visit and we of course went to the field for some fun rides in the semi and combine! What else would you do if you came to visit us in Fall??? I actually got to ride along for a little while too, cuz Casey begged Mommy to come along.
One evening Carter was outside on our deck doing his homework noticed these clouds. He thought they looked blue and asked me to take a picture.
Here are my friends and family from the visit. Casey and his corn phone?!
Here's a leaf on our front porch....
We came home one night and Emily said, "Look Mom! We have a leaf on our porch!! Our own leaf!!" It was a memorable moment I must say...
It is just soo sweet to see our dog and kitties cuddling up together. I hope they keep each other warm this winter. I managed this shot through the window in the door because the minute I open  anything to take a picture they all get up!
There's always more to tell...and I'll try to catch up better. Life is full and life is good!

Prom Dress Disaster Day

So here's what she came up with for Prom Dress Disaster Day!! Love the toilet paper and the hat!!

Duct Tape Day

It's homecoming week at our school and Tuesday was Duct Tape day. Monday was an Inservice so Tuesday started the week. Emily and I decided to make her a duct tape skirt. So, we looked up directions on the Internet! Wow! There are lots of cool things you can make out of duct tape!

Emily fondly calls it her trash can!
She decorated the skirt with leopard tape, her name and an orange star!

Then she also made a bow for her hair!!
She rocked duct tape day. Today is Prom Dress Disaster!! More pictures later!

Purple Potatoes??!!

This is Al's favorite thing about a garden: Harvest! I didn't plant much (some of which that I did plant got washed away since I put the garden in the middle of a waterway!! Al told me it was a waterway, but I didn't listen very well...). The other thing I didn't do much of was weed! UGH!
One thing we did plant was purple potatoes! Only because they were purple and that was intriguing to me! The other night I looked out my deck door and saw Al and Carter digging my purple potatoes without me!! So Emily, Casey and I headed out to take part in digging potatoes!

Since I have a funny quirk that I don't like to touch dry dirt, Carter did all of the "digging" around for the potatoes and I took pictures!

They weren't very big and there weren't very many, but this was our first year in this spot, so we'll see what next year brings!! They are fun anyway!
Emily is getting quite creative when she takes my camera...maybe we'll have 3 photographers in the family yet!! Now if I could just get them to love reading as much as I do, I'd have a book club right at home!!
They actually are purple through and through...
They turn a little bit gray when cooked, but still fun and intriguing and tasty!

A pic of everyone taking a bite of purple potatoes! Except me; they were all hungry so I just snapped these quick and sat down to eat with them!

Try something new today! It's kinda fun!

We've been flocked!!

We've been flocked!! This morning when I woke u,p I saw a "flock" of flamingos in my front yard!! The After prom committee of our school is doing this as a fundraiser. Ironically, I wanted to get flocked, cuz now I get to pass it on....I wonder who will be next...

Oh and as a side note. When we moved, I lost my GPS...imagine that! Anyway, I put on a jacket to take my "flocking" picture and wondered what was so heavy in the pocket?..

The Lost is Found!!!

I wonder what I'll find next?...Probably something I didn't even know was lost...

I Love Labor Day!

Good Friends and Kayaking on a beautiful day...

Al is totally relaxed and enjoying himself.

Here I am cooking Cheesy Chicken Italiano in my Dutch ovens for the crowd and my mom's birthday. My friend Vicky did a lot of help with this meal, but I think she took my camera and deleted some pics (gasp! I know) because I can't seem to find any...
More friends came for supper, but it was getting dark which also meant FIREWORKS!!! Al put on an awesome show...lanterns and all.
Super Casey! Emily took my camera and she and Casey played...
Check out the illusion. Cool huh?
Here, Casey has just slayed the dragon(dog) and saved the damsel (Emily).
Carter not caring that the river really is cold.
My kids could play in the sand and collect rocks and shells ALL day long...
My mom looked down and actually found an Indian arrowhead!!! For Real!!! Amazing! She's always wanted to find one and this weekend she did!! How cool is that?!
I think we all were ready for a little rest and relaxation and fun!! I love Labor Day!!
